Kavanagh confident of bout in ‘24

JOHN KAVANAGH is confident Conor Mcgregor will return to the UFC octagon this year.

Mcgregor’s long-term coach revealed that the 35-year-old has informed him of when he will return to training, with Kavanagh travelling to America earlier this week to attend the New York premiere for Mcgregor’s new movie Road House.

Mcgregor left the USADA testing pool when beginning shooting for the movie and announced, at the end of last year, that he would return to fight Michael Chandler in the summer.

The former UFC champion said he’s hoping for clarity regarding the fight.

“I have two fights left on my UFC contract,” Mcgregor said.

“I hope we’ll get some clarity with a date and I can push towards it.

“I’m sure we will get something in before year-end. I would love International Fight Week. If they give me that then we can go ahead straight away. “June 29 and then the Sphere.” Kavanagh is confident that once

Mcgregor’s Road House obligations come to an end a plan for his return date will become clearer.

“I don’t see any reason why it won’t happen, he’s back in the USADA pool, he’s been tested a bunch of times this year, he’s obviously got his commitments for the movie,” said Kavanagh.

“When that’s done, that’s what he’s told me, he’s buckling down after that, it gives us plenty of time for June 29.

“I’m hoping it will be then and I look forward to making that walk one more time with him.”

Kavanagh also mentioned the text Mcgregor sent him when he first heard about the movie.

“It’s been a while now, over a year, he text me, he said ‘Oh, they’re asking me to star in this movie ‘Road House’, have you heard of it?’ and I was like ‘What? Road House. Are you going to be Patrick Swayze?’

“But I should have known he was going to be the bad guy, but Road House, for me, was a classic back in the day. I’m really interested to see what they’ve done with it.”
