ENGLAND’S EURO PLAN IN TATTERS

- BY JOHN CROSS

GARETH SOUTHGATE has seen his plans for the Euros thrown into chaos and warned it could get even worse.

Captain Harry Kane heads up England’s growing casualty list with Jordan Henderson and Cole Palmer also ruled out of tonight’s Brazil friendly at Wembley while Bukayo Saka has already left the camp.

Southgate could not hide his frustration with less than three months to go until the European Championships and fears players will be exhausted by the summer.

The Three Lions boss, who fears Kane (above) will also miss Tuesday’s game with Belgium because of an ankle injury, was desperate to play his strongest line-up in two big tests but his plans are now in tatters.

He said: “We have a long list of 40-odd players and a third are unavailable, which is the highest we have ever had.

“No Kane for tomorrow, no Henderson for tomorrow, no

Cole Palmer for tomorrow. Bukayo arrived with a hamstring problem so didn’t train so he has gone back.

“Everybody across the League has a high number of injuries but it is always more complex. Everyone wants a simple solution to complex problems. Some players have been unfortunate.

“Kane’s injury was when he crashed into the net at the weekend and it forced a mechanism with his ankle. He had a winter break and is not playing in our league.

“Some players have played too many games and there’s been a raft of injuries with the intensity of the games.”

Southgate also said he thinks more clubs will follow Newcastle and Tottenham, who are playing a friendly in Australia on May 22, by playing lucrative end-of-season matches.

He added: “It’s going to happen more and more. Why? Financial Fair Play means clubs need to generate their own money.

“We’re in a bizarre world where there’s more money in the game than ever before and yet everyone is scrambling across federations and clubs to generate more money.”
