WE’RE DON THE TELLY

Gilbey can’t wait for MK to show off promotion credentials in front of Sky cameras

- League Two: 5.15pm BY KEITH WEBSTER

JUST as England get the ball rolling tonight against Brazil, Alex Gilbey hopes MK Dons will have served up their own TV treat and put themselves into an automatic promotion place.

MK travel north to Edgeley Park to face Stockport County in a mouth-watering clash that could go a long way to deciding how this season will end for both teams.

Stockport start the day second in the table, just a point ahead of Wrexham and Milton Keynes, who would both leapfrog them with wins today.

And with the Sky cameras in attendance for a 5.15pm kick-off, veteran midfielder Gilbey, in his second spell at the club, relishes the prospect. “Absolutely, it’s exciting,” he said.

“Everyone wants to be on telly. It will be a new thing for a lot of the lads but you have to embrace it and enjoy it, and show people how good you are.

“Stockport are really tough. They’ve been up there all season. They have really good individual players and we know how hard that is going to be.

“But we can go into it full of confidence and get to where we want to be.

“When we’re at it, when we’re on the front foot and aggressive, we’re a very good team. Stockport are at home and they won’t want to let us have our own way so we need to match them toe-to-toe and let our football do the talking.”

MK are bidding to make an immediate return to League One, having gone down by just one point last season.

They have already played two games more than Stockport and a game more than Wrexham, so a win today is crucial if they are to go straight up and avoid the playoff lottery.

“We’re in a lot better place now, picking up some good results,” Gilbey said. “We’ve got seven games left, that is all that matters. We’ll take it game by game and see where we are.”

After five games in 14 days this month, and 14 league games in 56 days, Dons have had a full week to prepare for today’s big clash, a break that Gilbey says was muchneeded.

“With the amount of energy and enthusiasm the lads put into their performances, it’s nice to have a little break in between. They were crawling off the pitch with how much they want it.

“We’ve got to build that enthusiasm through the week. We are going to the team second in the league, on Sky.

“What more can you want? It’s exciting times.”
