STUDENT MASTER

- PETER O’HEHIR

TRUST Folly Master to defy top-weight in the Student Raceday 11th April Handicap Chase in Limerick tomorrow.

This unexposed but progressive six-year-old gave Tom Dreaper his first success since taking over the licence from his legendary father, Jim, when scoring on his chasing debut at Thurles three weeks ago and is expected to build on that performance here.

Folly Master steppedup significantly on previous form when landing a bit of a touch (off 93) in a Punchestown handicap hurdle in late January but built to be a chaser, he has always looked likely to reach his potential over the bigger obstacles.

And, as expected, he jumped particularly well when scoring in Thurles, readily seeing off 106-rated Brucejack.

Tomorrow, Keith Donoghue’s mount steps into handicap company, off an initial chase mark of 118 and is a confident choice to provide proof of his potential, at the expense of Baldur’s Gate.

Trained by Charles Byrnes, 119rated Summer Melody makes plenty of appeal in the INH Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle.

Conqueror of Grade 1 performer Found A Fifty in a Navan bumper, this fellow’s hurdle form includes a close fourth behind Longhouse Poet on this track 15 months ago and, although he hasn’t been seen since finishing tailed off behind the prolific winner High Class Hero here in October, he might prove too strong for Gordon Elliott’s Gold In The Rivers, a distant second to Twoohthree at Leopardstown.

Two previous winners are among the 11 runners for the listed Kevin Mcmanus Champion Pro-am 4-Y-0 Flat Race, for which the market will give an indication of expectations for the newcomers.

Preference is for Tom Cooper’s Shuttle Diplomacy (left), success at Naas and partnered again by Patrick Mullins.
