physically can, as fast as you can, hopefully as well as you can.”

Liz, who did her first modelling job for Estée Lauder when she was 29, said despite, her son being a bigtime director now, she still has to tell him to tidy his room.

She said: “Damian still lives with me at home. We worked very closely on this movie and are looking to do a few more together so it makes sense to have him living at home. It’s challenging sometimes but mostly wonderful. We’re very close.

“Working with Damian has changed our relationship. He’s not a child any more. He’s 21 and has written and directed his first movie which is an incredible achievement. He’s grown up but I still tell him to pick his socks off of the floor and tidy up a bit. He’s still my baby.”

No matter what she has done since, including starring in Austin Powers, Hurley will always be remembered for “that dress” – the black Versace gown held together by oversized gold safety pins – which she wore to the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere in 1994. But Liz admitted, although it was the outfit that launched her career, she never got to keep it. She said: “I never really had it. I borrowed it because I didn’t have many clothes back then.

“I had to give it back the day after I wore it on the red carpet with Hugh. That dress has a life all of its own now and that’s nothing to do with me. It has had its own exhibitions and everything. It has become part of fashion. I’m just grateful Versace let me wear it for the night.”

Despite splitting with Grant in 2000, Liz said he remains her best friend. She said: “We are really good friends and family. We sort of became famous at the same time. We both went from having no money to suddenly working.

“It was just us in those days. We went through a lot so we have always had a very special bond. It would be inconceivable for me not to be his best friend.”

Evergreeen Liz, who puts her youthful looks and stunning physique down to healthy eating and exercise, has more than three million Instagram followers.

She said: “The biggest reason I do a lot of Instagram stuff is because I have a beachwear company, Elizabeth Hurley Beach. I am always

promoting my products and that is the major reason why I prance around in a bikini at my age. I should probably be in an ankle-length kaftan with a snood by now.”

Liz believes keeping active is the key. She added: “I want women to feel confident in how they look and to accept that every size can be beautiful. But I still think it’s important to be in shape.

“It doesn’t really matter what size you are, it’s important to do a reasonable amount of walking and exercise. I don’t go to the gym but I am quite active.”

Liz is embracing her 50s and said: “I’m happy and feeling very blessed. I’m working with my son, who is the light of my life, I have a great family and great friends.

“I also have a great career but I know anything could come crashing down in this business. Doors open and slam you in the face all of the time but I am happy today.”
