A BUSINESSMAN charged over the country’s largest crystal meth seizure was denied bail in the High Court yesterday.

Nathan Mcdonnell, 44, is a former company director who previously ran the Ballyseedy Garden Centre in Tralee, Co Kerry.

He has been charged with possession of drugs worth more than €13,000 for sale or supply at the outlet between October 27 and February 12.

The court had heard customs discovered 543kg of drugs, with an estimated value of €32.8million, when they inspected a container in the Port of Cork.

Ms Justice Karen O’connor also noted Mcdonnell’s dad, Michael, would stand bail and offered €100,000 from his life savings as a surety.

The court was told, Mcdonnell, who watched via video link from prison, and another man may face additional charges.

The judge heard directions from the DPP were required.

Both are due before the district court again today.

LEGENDARY Irish actor Emmet Bergin was laid to rest yesterday.

The Glenroe star, inset, sadly passed away suddenly on March 15.

His remains were brought to the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome for a service and a celebration of his life in Harold’s Cross.

Among the mourners at the funeral were his wife Sarah and daughter Tara. His brother, fellow actor Patrick Bergin, was also photographed on the way into the chapel.

A number of well-known actors paid

Patrick Bergin tribute to Emmet, who was best known for his role as Dick Moran on the RTE drama series Glenroe, a role he held for 18 years.

Other famous faces spotted at the funeral were legendary Fair City actor Jim Bartley and Glenroe actress Geraldine Plunkett.
