Sister reveals that crash victim was 18wks pregnant
A YOUNG mother who died in hospital 10 days after a horror crash was 18 weeks pregnant when it happened, her devastated sister has revealed.
Irene Lynch, 39, tragically died on Monday after the car she was a passenger in collided with a wall before entering the water at Lochan Mor in Menlo village on the outskirts of Galway city at around 7am on March 15.
The mother of two was originally from Athlone and was “well-loved by everyone who knew her and very bubbly”.
Irene also previously tragically lost a child, Lauren, 20 years ago and was the loving mother of Daniel, 20, and Isobel, three, at the time of the accident.
Her sister Marcella told the Irish Mirror: “She was 18 weeks pregnant at the time of the car crash and after 10 days she would have been 19 weeks.”
Irene was the youngest of five girls, followed by three boys, and Marcella added: “We’re a big family and a very close family.

“We’re all sticking together strong as a family and as best as we can. We were all there for the whole 10 days by her bedside praying. She was always my mother’s pet. Mammy had an awful soft spot for, because she was the youngest of the girls.
“When I lived in Portlaoise I’d drive to Athlone to stay with her over the weekend and then on a Sunday evening when I’d be getting ready to go home, she would say ‘can’t you just stay until the morning?’ She loved having company.
“Irene was very easy-going. She has a very good heart. She’d always be stopping to talk to you and when she starts talking to you you’d never get her away.”
A source said that at the time of the accident, Irene was in Galway visiting a friend, who was the driver of the car. The man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital at the time.
Gardai have appealed to road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the Menlo area between 6am and 7am on March 15 to come forward.
