Biden jokes about rival’s changing fortunes

JOKING JOE

US PRESIDENT Joe Biden joked that Donald Trump was “crushed by debt” in a recent public appearance.

Later, however, it was revealed his joke was at odds with the news that Trump’s net worth had climaxed to an astounding $6.4billion this week.

Mr Biden shared his little jest while talking to supporters during a campaign fundraiser in Raleigh, North Carolina. He told the crowd: “The other day, a defeated guy came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, I’m being crushed by debt – completely wiped out’. I had to look at him and say, ‘Sorry Donald, I can’t help you’.”

Jokes at Trump’s expense seem to be becoming a common theme for the president. Last week, during a campaign gathering in Houston, he poked fun at Trump over his challenge to secure the bond of more than $500million required for his civil fraud judgement. Biden mentioned this rules out Trump from the list of the 500 richest people in the world.

Meanwhile, Trump’s fortunes took a turn for the better this week after Digital World Acquisition Corp successfully merged with his outfit, Trump Media and Entertainment Group.

His overall value received a hefty $4billion boost due to this union between Truth Social’s parent company and the specialpurpose acquisition company, reports the Mirror.

For the first time, Trump has made it onto the Bloomberg Billionaires Index of the world’s richest 500 people.

His company, Trump Media saw its shares swell on their first day on the stock market, with shares going up over 50% to $57.99.

The day before, a New York appeals court massively reduced the bond the former President owed for his civil fraud case, saying he could now post a bond of $175million, rather than the original figure of $464million, which his lawyers said he would struggle to find underwriters for.

Trump now has ten days to pay the fee or some of his assets could be seized.
