AN Irish woman has died after she was stabbed in the neck in New York on Saturday night.

The victim, who has been identified as 41-year-old Sarah Mcnally, was working in The Ceili House bar on Grand Avenue in Queens when she was knifed.

The horrific incident unfolded inside the pub shortly after 6.30pm.

The Irish Mirror understands the victim is originally from Longford town but had been living and working in the US city for a number of years.

The New York Police Department said they responded to a 911 call after receiving reports of an “assault in progress”.

When they arrived, cops revealed Ms

Mcnally had “stab wounds to the neck” while another man also had “stab wounds to the back and neck”.

Both were rushed to Elmhurst Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition.

Ms Mcnally was pronounced dead by medics shortly after arriving at the hospital. The man remains in a critical condition. No arrests have been made and The NYPD said: “The investigation remains ongoing.”

US media report the killing appears to be “domestic” with one witness telling ABC7 it seemed to be a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

Fianna Fail Councillor Seamus Butler said there was widespread shock and sadness in Longford after the news emerged.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror last night, Mr Butler said: “Our hearts go out to her family here in Longford and obviously when something like this happens overseas it’s so much more difficult.

“There are supports and hopefully the family are able to avail of them.”

The Irish Mirror contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs for comment.

Last year, Irish woman Denise Morgan was shot dead by her ex-boyfriend Joed Taveras in a murdersuicide in Queens.
