For Pete’s sake

- POETIC JUSTICE

IT’S quite difficult to balance being a Libertine with running a viable business.

Pete Doherty had some bohemian suggestions for his hotel business, which bandmate Carl Barat had to draw the line at, so they didn’t entirely bankrupt themselves.

Pete wanted guests to be able to pay for their rooms with a poem, much to Carl’s dismay. He asks him: “What are you going to pay the staff with? Dreams?”

Pete says: “I did insist there were going to be no tellies in the rooms, just typewriters and portable record players. Now when I stay there I’m like, where’s the f***ing telly? It’s 3am and I

and Carl, and their hotel

want to check the news.” Carl tells him: “Your business sense is quite ideological. You said people could stay for free if they write a poem, which didn’t work out in a financial capacity.”

Pete clarifies he had not intended for limericks “scrawled on the bog wall” to count as payment, rather “beautiful verse” with their board given “in return for their weeks’ work of creativity”.

However Carl overruled him, he assures comedian Alan Carr on his Life’s A Beach podcast.

Their hotel – the Albion Rooms in Margate, Kent – was rated one of the worst in the country before the pair took it over.

Now it gets impressive reviews - even though the guests aren’t always well behaved, and some leave the rooms in questionable states. “We get some belters, but people complain about the strangest things,” says Carl.

Although former addict Pete has had many a complaint made against him.

Listing all the countries he has been thrown out of or banned from, Pete counts Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, China, Japan and reveals he is currently trying to regain access to the US.

Singer Lizzo has been inundated with celebrity support since she dramatically quit the entertainment industry on Friday, saying: “I’m starting to feel the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Stars including Bette Midler have urged her not to throw in the towel. “I can’t believe that the extraordinary Lizzo has quit the music business,” fumed Bette. “Lizzo, never let the b ***** ds grind you down. You’ve changed our lives, don’t do this to us, we need you. I’m gonna cry.”

Lizzo said she felt she was “the butt of the joke” over her appearance and was “fed up of lies” after allegations about her conduct towards her dancers, which she denies.
