FUR FLIES TO KEEP ALBION IN THE HUNT
DARNELL FURLONG’S dramatic late equaliser salvaged a point for West Brom at Watford to tighten the Baggies’ hold on a play-off spot.
Carlos Corberan’s side trailed to goals from Edo Kayembe and Mileta Rajovic before Brandon Thomasasante kick-started the comeback.
Furlong completed West Brom’s recovery in added-time (above, congratulated by Jed Wallace).
The draw – along with Coventry’s 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff – gives the Baggies an eight-point cushion to seventh. Coventry looked set to keep up the pressure on the top six when Ellis Simms put them ahead, but two Liam Kitching own-goals left the Sky Blues empty-handed.
Preston’s hopes of breaking into the play-off places also took a hit when they lost 1-0 at struggling Birmingham. Jay Stansfield’s secondhalf goal was enough to secure their first win under interim boss Gary Rowett – and a first maximum in eight games – to move them two points clear of the bottom three.
Huddersfield missed out on the chance to move out of the drop zone when they failed to hold on to the lead provided by Bojan Radulovic’s first-half strike in a 1-1 draw at Stoke.
That result kept Plymouth out of the relegation places – despite losing 1-0 at home to Bristol City.
Nahki Wells’ goal proved to be the difference as Argyle failed to score for a fifth successive home game.
They also lost Alfie Devine to a 78th-minute red card.
Sheffield Wednesday remain second bottom after losing 2-0 at Middlesbrough while bottom club Rotherham avoided being relegated to League One by beating Millwall 2-1.
Sammie Szmodics took his season’s tally to 29 goals with a first-half double (above, celebrating his opener) as Blackburn gave their survival hopes a huge boost with a 5-1 win at Sunderland. And QPR moved six points clear of danger after Steve Cook struck the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win at Swansea.
