Man charged after the murder of Irish woman Sarah Mcnally in NYC
36-year-old is also accused of possession of weapon
A MAN has been charged with the murder of an Irish woman who was stabbed in a US pub.
Marcin Pieciak, 36, with an address at 76th Street in Queens, NYC, is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Sarah Mcnally, 41, who was from Co Longford, suffered a fatal neck wound at the Ceili House in Queens on Saturday.
The victim, who worked at the bar, died in hospital.
The New York Police Department said Pieciak was arrested and charged on Monday afternoon. He has not yet appeared in court. NYPD previously said they found Ms Mcnally with a stab wound to the neck after being alerted to an assault at Ceili House.
A spokesman for the Deputy Commissioner Public Information: Tarik Sheppard said: “On Saturday, March, at approximately 18:34, police responded to a 911 call for an assault in progress at Grand Avenue within the confines of the 104 Precinct.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 41-year-old female with a stab wound to the neck and an unidentified male with a stab wound to the back and neck.
“They responded and transported both aided individuals to NYC Health and Hospitals/elmhurst in critical condition.
“The 41-year-old female was subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
“The investigation remains ongoing.”
Many tributes have been paid to Ms Mcnally, who moved to New York around 10 years ago.
One local wrote on social media: “The whole of Longford is in shock.”
Her aunt Mary Mcnally wrote: “Rest in peace my beautiful niece Sarah, we are heartbroken. Love you always.”
Another aunt Margaret Gaffey, said her “beautiful niece” had been “taken all too soon”.
And cousin Petra Smith said: “My beautiful cousin, just can’t believe it.”
One pal wrote: “Sarah was such a lovely soul.
“May she rest in peace. She was a beautiful girl.”
Ms Mcnally is survived by her mother Dorrie, father Des, and their extended family.
