BASED on the novel The Talented Mr Ripley, made famous by the 1999 blockbuster with Matt Damon and Jude Law, this is a riveting version for TV.

Starring Andrew Scott, best known as Fleabag’s Hot Priest, it’s an ominous thriller set in Italy in the 1960s.

Shot entirely in stark black and white, the film noir-style series feels intense from the start.

Scott is magnetic as the titular Tom Ripley, a small-time grifter, a con artist and a loner, who is scraping by in New York.

From the insincere smile, to the way he looks at himself in the mirror a little too long, Ripley is quiet and chilling.

Down on his luck, he catches a break when he’s tracked down by a private detective on behalf of a very wealthy businessman who wants to give him a job.

Herbert Greenleaf needs Tom to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home.

Tom heads off to Naples to seek out Dickie, who is loafing on the coastal resort with his girlfriend Marge (Dakota Fanning), hoping to convince him to come home.

But Tom finds himself being sucked into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder.

Everything moves at a slow and sinister pace, building as we know to inevitable murderous acts. It’s dark, creepy and totally gripping.
