CORONATION STREET

As Liam gets ready for court, Gary and Maria try to bolster his confidence. But things start to go wrong when everyone realises that Dylan has gone missing – he has grabbed Liam to suggest they ditch court and do a runner.

Meanwhile, Roy answers the phone to receive another load of abuse and quickly retreats upstairs. And Daisy arrives for work, convinced that Carla can’t fire her as her name is on the deeds, but Jenny tells her to sling her hook.

AN unhappy family and a mysterious lodger in a farmhouse under renovation – this has all the makings of a thrilling drama. Especially when the lodger becomes a bit of a bunny boiler.

Running over four nights this week, Jill Halfpenny, Lee Ingleby and Claire Goose star in this intense story.

Jessica (Goose), Nick (Ingleby), and daughter, Alice (Freya Hannan-mills), relocate to the countryside, hoping to leave financial struggles and family conflicts behind.

Moving in to their dream fixer-upper, they take in a lodger, Sian (Halfpenny), who befriends Jessica and Alice but triggers suspicion in Nick.

When Sian first arrives, she’s utterly charming, but then Alice and Nick both start to feel uncomfortable.

Nick calls one of Sian’s references and discovers the woman is her aunt, leaving him even more suspicious.

The red flags keep appearing, with sneaky Sian eavesdropping on everything, taking in the marital strife, mother-daughter problems and financial worries.

She also learns that Nick cheated on Jessica in the past, and uses this information to her advantage.

The couple worry about Sian’s true intentions after she begins borrowing Jessica’s clothes, being overly familiar with Nick and developing an inappropriate connection with Alice. And the scheming soon becomes even more sinister.

Jill, who was initially approached to play Jessica but asked to play femme fatale Sian instead, says: “Sian sees they are in a bit of a sticky situation, she finds their Achilles heel and she just twists the knife.”
