OWLS MUST SHOW THEIR NASTY SIDE

QPR 0 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 2

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY boss Danny Rohl has instructed his players to “be ruthless, be nasty and be men” as they look to continue their survival mission against promotion-chasing Norwich tomorrow.

The Owls took another big step towards staying in the Championship when they beat fellow relegation battlers QPR.

Although they remain in the drop zone, goals from Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba moved Wednesday within four points of 16th at a congested foot of the table.

Wednesday had not won a single league game when Rohl (above) took charge in mid-october and they tasted victory in just one of their first 18 games.

The German says pulling off a survival miracle would be the highlight of his managerial career.

“Never before has one team without a win in the first 14 match-days stayed in this league,” he said.

“We have a big chance and a big opportunity.

“If we stay in the league this season, it will be for me the biggest achievement and for the club it means a lot.

“To have this chance with five matches to go is great to see.”

The Owls have struggled to score this campaign and might have paid the price for Josh Windass’ miss-of-the-season contender when he failed to convert from one yard.

But a fortunate rebounded clearance into Gassama and Musaba’s late strike secured the win at Loftus Road.

Defeat was only QPR’S third in their last 14 games.

Boss Marti Cifuentes insists one bad performance will not alter his belief in his resurgent players.

“One defeat will not change the confidence I have in them,” said the Spanish coach.

“I know the players will understand and react.

“We put ourselves in a much better situation than it was one month ago, three months ago or five months ago. We just need to keep working.”
