A flood of criticism aimed at Dundee after rain stops play AGAIN for Gers clash

- BY SCOTT BURNS

RAGING Rangers last night demanded action be taken against Dundee after their crucial Dens Park fixture was washed out again.

The Ibrox club accused their rivals of negligence and unprofessionalism following the postponment just hours from kick-off.

The Dark Blues are already facing charges over their quagmire pitch and Gers insist Dundee have repeatedly breached SPFL rules.

An Ibrox statement confirmed: “Rangers has written to the SPFL outlining its position following today’s further postponement of the Dundee

Club, where they have repeatedly breached SPFL rules, continues to have a damaging effect on the top professional league in the country.

“In a week where record TV viewing figures were recorded for a match in the same competition, and this evening’s game due to be televised again by Sky Sports, this episode is deeply embarrassing and has also been eminently avoidable. “Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make representations to them in the strongest manner.

“The club has been repeatedly putting forward solutions to the SPFL, which have not been taken up.

“It has again proposed a solution to the preparation and execution of this rescheduled fixture and is awaiting a response from the SPFL.”

The game has been rescheduled for Dens Park next Wednesday. That causes an issue as Philippe Clement’s (below) men have a Scottish Cup semi-final with Hearts on the Sunday.

The rescheduling also causes a problem for the Scottish Premiership post-split. Both Hibs and Motherwell could pip Dundee to the top six but might need to wait for the outstanding Rangers fixture to be played before they get clarity.

Hibs were last night said to have held ‘robust discussions’ with the SPFL over ‘sporting integrity’ after yesterday’s farce.

Dundee club secretary

Eric Drysdale is adamant that the game shouldn’t be moved to a neutral venue.

Drysdale said: “We want to play at Dens Park. The point I would make in terms of sporting integrity, this is a Dundee home match. We are entitled to a home match if we can.

“It is only if it becomes impossible to play a home game then we should be implementing anything else.

“I appreciate where we are, having to play a game after matchday 33 and we have to have robust contingency plans should this weather continue.”
