Israel braces for revenge missile strike from Tehran
ISRAEL is on high alert amid warnings that Iran could launch revenge strikes, using around 100 drones and dozens of missiles, at any moment.
American intelligence believes Tehran may ignore warnings not to retaliate over a suspected Israeli air strike on its consular building in Syria.
It could also attack Israel’s foreign embassies.
The April 1 strike killed seven, including two top
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps generals, one a leading liason man with Lebanese Hezbollah.
Mohammad Reza Zahedi was thought to have been behind attacks from southern Lebanon, which borders Israel, and plans for a ground assault.
Military leave in Israel has been cancelled and its groundto-air defence teams are on high alert, while Iran’s medium and long-range missile squads are on an attack-footing.
ALARM
The drones warning came from unnamed US officials briefing media.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran: “Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We are prepared, both defensively and offensively.”
The US military believes Israel carried out the air strike and US intelligence chiefs believe Iran has ignored peace pleas from Gulf State negotiators.
Western foreign ministries have sent an alarm to staff regarding a possible attack by Iran.
It raises the “possibility of an attack on Israeli territory from Iran and that such an attack could trigger wider escalation”.
Israeli bombardments and ground offensives have killed at least 33,360 people in six months of fighting in Gaza, which is facing a humanitarian crisis.
