EVEN TV hosts and influencers are struggling to buy in Dublin, as James Kavanagh is looking for a house outside the capital.

The social media personality, 34, has previously said he would like to build a home in Cork, where his chef partner William Murray is from, because he can’t even “afford a garden” in the capital.

Home Adventure is a four-part series that follows the couple as they search for their first home together.

The pair have been spending

€2,000 a month renting in Phibsborough and are desperate to leave the high rents of the capital.

With a budget of €350,000, they want to escape city life and find a sustainable hideaway where they can grow their produce and keep hens. With eco-friendliness being their top priority, the duo inspect unique homes including a property sculpted entirely from wood to a repurposed shipping container. In the final episode of the season, which airs tomorrow at 8pm, James falls in love with a thatched cottage in Wicklow.

While Cork was their plan, the influencers’ love for the dainty home could lead to them buying outside of either of their native counties. James said: “We spent the last year exploring some of the most interesting and gorgeous homes in the country. We’ve been borrowing inspiration from every inch of Ireland to embellish into our own house, which we’ve been hunting for.”

He previously told the Sunday World he imagined getting on the property ladder at a younger age. James added: “We have been living here [in Phibsborough] for seven years.

“I always thought it would be three years max because I wanted to get on the property ladder, I wanted to start being an adult.”

James announced in 2021 they would be looking to move to Cork the following year.

He told the Mirror at the time: “I couldn’t afford a house I’d want. Flat out, would not be able to. I want a bit of a garden, like even the things when I talk about it, it just seems like everyone should have that, I just want a bit of a garden.

“But if you want a bit of a garden you are nearly in the millions.”

More than anything, the influencer said he wants to be able to live a sustainable life. He added: “I’m just ready for my next chapter and my next chapter involves chickens and half an acre: I’m dying for chickens. My dad got them last year and he talks to them for hours.

“And I love that idea.”
