NELSON MANDELA: THE APPRENTICE
South African hero and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela is the latest subject in this documentary series which focuses on a small collection of special photos to tell a famous life story.
Starting with an image of young Nelson wearing his first suit while attending university, Mandela’s daughter and granddaughter paint a picture of an ambitious and charismatic young man starting out in the world, with little idea of the impact he would make. We follow his story through co-founding the ANC Youth League, to his rise in popularity, his arrest and imprisonment on Robben Island, and finally becoming President and abolishing apartheid.
It’s a lot for one man to achieve, and interviews with those who knew him well reveal the personal sacrifices he had to make to secure progress for South Africa. His daughter admits she had a difficult relationship with her dad as a result.
BBC1, 9pm
After weeks of hilarious head-in-hands business blunders, the final is upon us as pie firm owner Phil Turner goes head-to-head with fitness entrepreneur Rachel Woolford.
Getting through the gruelling interview round was tough enough, but now there’s one more task between the candidates and that tantalising £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar. As always, the finalists will
enlist the help of their former rivals to create teams for the last task, with Karren and Tim looking on.
Phil and Rachel have the chance to launch their brand in front of industry experts at a black tie event, and will be asked to make a digital billboard and TV advert to sell their vision.
Phil, who has scraped through after losing most of the tasks this series, hopes he can do enough to boost his pie empire, while Rachel wants to open a fitness studio.
