Tributes flooding in for ‘kind-hearted’ Shay as funeral is announced
GAA clubs extend sympathies after swimming pool tragedy
FUNERAL arrangements have been announced for “kindhearted” Shay Lynch, who drowned in a horror swimming pool accident at the weekend.
The seven-year-old, from Clonlara in Co Clare, got into difficulty after attending a birthday party at the Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Centre in Killaloe on Saturday.
He was recovered from the water unconscious and efforts were made to try and save his life at the poolside.
Gardai and emergency services attended the hotel and the boy was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where he was pronounced dead.
The swimming pool at the hotel’s leisure centre was immediately closed.
Shay will repose at Mcmahon’s Funeral Home in Blackwater today from 5pm to 7pm.
His funeral Mass will take place tomorrow at 11am in St Senan’s Church, Clonlara followed by burial afterwards in St Thomas’ Church grounds, Bridgetown.

His death notice on RIP.IE says: “Predeceased by his nana Christina. Survived by his heartbroken family, parents James and Tania, sister Abi, grandparents Jerome, Joe and Kathleen, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours and his many friends.”
Shay, who was a pupil at Scoil Seanain Naofa, Clonlara, has been remembered by his school for his “bright smile and his kind heart and will be greatly missed”.
