CARLOS CORBERAN has told West Brom to ignore the league table ahead of the crunch trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Victory for the Baggies will all but guarantee a top-six finish with a game to spare, but the Spaniard reckons it’s dangerous to expect an easy ride against the relegation-threatened Owls.

Last week’s 3-1 win at Blackburn lifted Danny Rohl’s men out of the bottom three for the first time since August and, even though the clubs are separated by 16 places and 25 points, Corberan is predicting a tough test in front of more than 30,000 fans at Hillsborough.

Wednesday’s first win of the season didn’t arrive until October but, since the arrival of highly-rated German coach Rohl (circled), the Yorkshire club have been climbing up the form table.

The upturn in results hasn’t gone unnoticed by Corberan, who is looking to repeat his feat of reaching the play-offs with Huddersfield two years ago.

The Albion boss (left) said: “If you look at the table you see us in fifth and

Wednesday in 21st. But in the table based on the last 25 games they have collected just three points less than we have.

“In these last 25 games Sheffield Wednesday are the eighth-best team with 37 points. That’s more than Hull City, more than Preston and more than Middlesbrough. They are in a very good moment, they are a competitive team who we can’t underestimate. It’s a match where both teams have huge targets.”

Albion have won only one of their last six matches; that was 2-0 at home to Rotherham (celebrating a Brandon Thomas-asante goal, left).

Wednesday are a point above the drop zone, but Rohl insists their mindset will not change after finally climbing out of the bottom three.

The Owls have won 14 of their 36 games under the head coach, who said: “We have been the hunters for all this time but our approach doesn’t change just because we are no longer in the relegation places. Now we are hunting the teams above us just out of the danger zone. It’s a mindset that has served us well and it won’t alter.”

The turnaround has won Rohl many admirers, with Sunderland keen to tempt him to Wearside next season, but he said: “The next game is what’s most important, not all the rumours around me.”
