Mckenna: We’ve got it all to do

Coventry v Ipswich

Championship, 8pm

KIERAN MCKENNA takes his Tractor Boys to

Coventry tonight hoping they end up in the promotion driving seat on the final day of the Championship season.

Ipswich need four points from two games to fend off Leeds’ challenge and return to the Premier League for the first time since 2002.

They conclude a remarkable league campaign on Saturday at home to virtually-doomed Huddersfield, while Leeds – whose goal difference is seven better than Ipswich – finish against fourth-placed Southampton at Elland Road.

“We knew coming into the Hull game (a 3-3 draw on Saturday) we needed five points, and the objective is to try and get a result on Tuesday night,” said Ipswich boss Mckenna (above).

“Hopefully a win, but to get a positive result to keep things under our control going into the last game.

“We know whatever happens now we’re going back to Portman Road on Saturday in contention for automatic promotion.

“What a wonderful thing to be involved in, we’ll embrace that and try to deliver a performance on Tuesday.”

Ipswich’s bid for a second successive promotion has stuttered in recent weeks, with three successive draws and no win in their last four.

Leeds have also limped towards the finishing line in picking up only four points from five games.

But Mckenna said: “From what I feel around the group and see on the pitch I don’t see us playing with tension, which is really important at this stage.

“I see us playing with bravery, confidence and great intensity still. That’s really important.”

FA Cup semi-finalists Coventry saw their slim play-off hopes ended by Saturday’s goalless draw at Blackburn.
