Josh probe: three are freed without charge
Teenager and 2 men in 20s believed to be associates of Itseli
THREE men being held over the killing of Joshua Itseli were yesterday released without charge.
The suspects, one a teenager and two men in their 20s, are believed to have been associates of Joshua, who died after he was shot several times by an AR15 assault rifle in Drimnagh, South Dublin just after midnight on Monday.
Gardai believe the four men were on their way to launch a pipe bomb attack on two brothers when they were themselves ambushed.
Detectives believe one of Itseli’s associates was armed with the AR15 and fired it – accidentally killing him.
The suspects fled the scene and three men were arrested by armed gardai a
short time later. Gardai said the probe was continuing. A file will now be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A spokesman said: “The three males arrested as part of this investigation were detained at Garda Stations in the Dublin Region under
Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. They have since been released without charge.
“Investigations remain ongoing.
“A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
Gardai have also appealed for information on a black Talaria Sting electric motorbike which is understood to have been used in connection with the killing.
They said: “The electric motorbike was observed in the vicinity of Dolphin Road, Crumlin Road and Davitt Road on Sunday night, 5th May 2024 and into the early hours of Monday morning, 6th May 2024.
“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have observed a black Talaria Sting electric motorbike in the vicinity of Dolphin Road in recent days.
“The motorbike has been seized by investigating Gardai, who are also seeking the rightful owner of the vehicle.”
