SOLID SILVA SEASON FOR COTTAGERS

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

MARCO SILVA insisted Fulham’s season has been a resounding success – especially after the £50m sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic last summer.

And the Portuguese coach said: “At our best level we really were a fantastic team to watch.”

The Serbian striker’s goals took the Cottagers back into the Premier League and then to a 10th-placed finish last season before he was sold to Saudi side Al-hilal in August.

The West London club now sit 14th with only one win in eight games after their final home game of a difficult campaign, while star defender Tosin Adarabioyo is now set to leave on a free transfer.

But speaking after the Manchester City loss, Silva (below) said: “No doubt about it, a very good season. It’s difficult to talk about the whole season after a heavy defeat. Successful again.

“If you look at all the Premier League sides in the summer, who had to sell their main striker? No one. We were not able to go in the market to replace him strongly for many reasons.

“We used the players we had in our squad, we got confidence in Raul Jimenez again. A few good signings from us made an important difference in our squad, Timothy Castagne, Alex Iwobi for example. When we played at our best level, we really were a fantastic team to watch, enjoy and even myself as a manager to enjoy – I like to enjoy my own team sometimes. I will analyse as a manager with the board and the club the steps to keep

improving.”
