For many celebrities, keeping their personal lives private is key — especially when it comes to their wedding day. From whirlwind romances to surprise ceremonies con rmed months — or even years — after the fact, we’re taking a look at some of the celebrity pairings who pulled off secret weddings…

Anya Taylor-joy con rm ed earlier this month that she and her partner, Malcom Mccrae, have tied the knot — two years ago.

The couple, who rst met at the premiere of the Net ix hit The Queen’s Gambit in 2021, were rumoured to have gotten married in Italy in October 2023.

But it looks like they walked down the aisle for the rst time much earlier than anyone had thought.

Taylor-joy, who will next be on the big screen in the Mad Max spinoff Furiosa, told her social media followers that she had“secretly married my best friend”in 2022 and shared a series of snaps from the day.

She wrote,“two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans.

“The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever.

“Happy second ( rst) anniversary my love… you’re the coolest.

“N.B yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes.yes, I am the vampire Lestat.”

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had fans stunned when they got back together in 2021, nearly two decades after they rst called it quits. The couple had previously been due to walk down the aisle in September 2003, but postponed the ceremony.

And in January 2004, it was announced they called time on their relationship.

Around a year after they reconciled, Affleck and Lopez were engaged again — and in July 2022, the On The Floor hitmaker wrote in her newsletter that they had tied the knot in Lasvegas.

She said,“they were right when they said,‘all you need is love’.we are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of ve amazing children and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to.

“Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll nd the best moment of your life in a drivethrough in Lasvegas at twelve thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with.

“Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things — and worth waiting for.”

Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst met on the set of the second season of Fargo, but

THE MAGIC OF THAT DAY IS INGRAINED IN EVERY CELL OF MY BEING.”

didn’t start dating until 2016. The pair, who went on to co-star in The Power Of The Dog, sparked engagement rumours the following year when the Civil War actress was photographed with what appeared to be an engagement ring.

They welcomed their rst child in May 2018 and their second child was born in May 2021.

The couple sparked speculation they had tied the knot in August 2019, when Dunst was receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Plemons said,“aside from the brilliant actor you are, I have also had the even greater pleasure of getting to know you as a person outside of work — Kiki or Keeks.

“Seeing the kind of mother and wife, daughter, sister, friend and cohort you are is why I and all of your friends and everyone else are here today and why we all love you.”

In February 2022, Dunst told the Los Angeles Times that while they hadn’t tied the knot yet, they did“call each other husband and wife”.

She continued,“but we have to get married at this point. It’s ridiculous.

“We just haven’t planned a wedding. There was Covid, then we had another child.

“I didn’t want to be pregnant, get married, have a party, and not be able to have fun with everybody.”

It was reported late that year that the couple had said ‘I do’ in a private ceremony.

Wandavision’s Elizabeth Olsen seemingly con rmed that she and Robbie Arnett had tied the knot when she called him her husband in a June 2021 interview.

But the following year, the actress had actually gotten married years earlier — they just “never really talked about”their marriage.

She said on The Jess Cagle Show,“we eloped, and then we had a wedding at another time, but it was before Covid. I just never talked about it.“

The Ingrid Goes West actress told how the timing of their wedding ended up bene ting them.

She continued,“i had to work in England and there arevisa issues with that.

“He wouldn’t have been able to come at all actually. And also everything was so backed up.

“You couldn’t even, like, try to get married then. But it ended up working out.”

Sarah Snook and comedian Dave Lawson had been pals for years leading up to the pandemic — but fell in love while quarantining together in Australia.

Snook popped the question on Halloween in 2020. The following year, they got married in the backyard at her home in Brooklyn.

She recalled in October 2021,“At the beginning of the pandemic last year, I got locked down in Melbourne with one of my best mates and we fell in love.

“We’ve been friends since 2014, lived together, travelled together, always excited to see each other, but totally platonic.

“We’ve just never been single at the same time. I proposed and we got married in February in my backyard.”

The Run Rabbit Run star con rmed that they were expecting their rst child together as she walked the red carpet for the season four premiere of Succession.

In May 2023, she shared a snap of herself watching the nale with their newborn.

She said,“i just watched the nal episode of the nal season of something that has changed my life. “And now, my life has changed again. Thank you for all the love and support.”

Frieda Pinto and photographer Cory Tran were rst spotted together in 2017, and made their public debut as a couple the following year.

In 2019, the pair revealed that they had gotten engaged when they shared a sweet series of snaps.

The Mr. Malcom’s List actress wrote,“it all makes sense now.

“Life makes sense, the world makes sense, the past tears and trials make sense, what wise old lovers said about love makes sense, where I am makes sense and where I want to go completely makes sense.”

In 2021, Pinto told Kelly Clarkson how Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul had played matchmaker between her and Tran — and when asked how wedding planning was going, she con rmed that they had already tied the knot.

She said,“it’s a very romantic story if you must know. Of course, when we got engaged we thought we’d have this most magical wedding.

“I should clear the air. I wasn’t planning a big fat Indian wedding, it was just going to be something pretty and simple.

“But then Covid happened and it’s still happening and we just realised we were going to be planning this for the rest of our lives and probably never doing it.

“So we decided one day to go to the Honda Center in Anaheim [California] and just get married.

“Honestly, I have to say if any of you have planned a wedding, you probably know this, I do not want stomach ulcers from planning my own wedding.

“This was perfect! We got married and then we got to go home and take an afternoon nap.”

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley are said to have met on the set of 2013’s Suit Française — and two years later, there were rumours that they had gotten married in Byron Bay in Australia.

The Barbie actress later shared a photo of the two of them kissing, with the ring nger of her left hand — showing off a sparkling pear-shaped ring — front-and-centre.

She toldvogue in May 2016,“I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me.

“We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that

nd you like him’.

“And then it happened, and I was like,

‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before;.”

Emma Stone and Dave Mccary met in 2016, when the Poor Things actress hosted Saturday Night Live for the third time.

The two of them have kept their relationship largely under wraps over the years, although the comedian con rmed their engagement in December 2019 with a since-deleted snap on social media.

The couple sparked speculation they had tied the knot when they were photographed wearing matching gold bands in 2020.

They welcomed their rst child together the following year.

Days after they were spotted picking up their marriage license, Jay-z and Beyonce said ‘I do’ at his 13,500-sq ft Manhattan penthouse in 2008 in front of 40 guests.

Guests are said to have included Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

The Love On Top hitmaker gave fans a glimpse into some special moments throughout their relationship — including their engagement and their wedding day — in 2017, when she released a new video for her song, Die Withyou.

Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn tied the knot in January 2019 in a low-key — and secret — ceremony.

The pair had known each other since their school days and reconnected as adults, with the Shape Ofyou hitmaker announcing their engagement in January 2018.

He told Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast in 2021,“Me and Cherry’s actual wedding was a tiny affair, with hardly anyone there.

“We did it at night, at a random day in the middle of January, in the middle of nowhere.

“No one knew, no one came to it, we lit candles and we got married, went back and had a curry.”

WE GOT MARRIED AND THEN WE GOT TO GO HOME AND TAKE AN AFTERNOON NAP.”
