THROUGH the eyes of a Volvo car, the world looks so much safer.

With LiDAR powered by core computing and software, Volvo Cars sees severe accidents decreasing by up to 20 per cent.

By researching, learning and developing, Volvo has constantly improved the crash prevention systems in its cars, delivering some of the most advanced and effective systems to date.

A Volvo-unique set of eight cameras, five radars, 16 ultrasonic sensors, and a cutting-edge LiDAR sensor.

LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing method that uses light as a pulsed laser.

Volvo’s research indicates that adding LiDAR to an already safe car can reduce severe accidents by up to 20 per cent, and crash avoidance is up nine per cent.

Their longstanding sponsorship of the Boys in Green did no harm of course but really it was the value in the cars that kept people coming back.

And then.. well it slipped a bit. Opel were still selling cars here of course but not at the volumes they’d previously enjoyed and to be honest they got a bit, well, ugly.

But the revival of the brand has banished the bulbous lines of yesteryear and now they are looking pretty sharp

PART-CAR, part-spaceship, this futuristic vehicle is called the Gen. Travel, and it showcases how the Volkswagen Group thinks travelling by car beyond 2030 could look.

The design study made its public debut at last weekend’s Concours d’Elegance at Chantilly Arts & Elegance. It looked like nothing else among the swatches of priceless classic and vintage cars.

Previewing how mobility-as-aservice could look and function in the near future, the designers have created a vehicle that might replace car ownership and even short-haul flights.

At more than five metres long it’s as big as any large SUV. value is to be had in the handling where, just like its cousin the 308, it behaves precociously and offers real fun for the discerning driver.
