GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS World beaters
JAW-DROPPING FEATS RECOGNISED IN TOME
A UNICYCLE-riding weightlifter and jaw-dropping juggler are just two stars of the latest Guinness Book of World Records.
Jason Auld broke the record for heaviest single weight lifted by barbell in an overhead press while riding a unicycle, hefting a massive 68kg (149.91lbs).
While Kimberly Lester achieved the most juggling catches with six objects in 30 seconds using hands and feet, managing a whopping 87.
They are joined by Karenjeet Kaur Bains who set a record by squat-lifting her own bodyweight 42 times in a minute.
Jason, from Edinburgh, combined his twin passions of unicycling and weightlifting and set himself the goal of breaking a record to give structure to his life post-lockdown.
He trained five days a week for eight weeks, doing weightlifting sessions on and off the unicycle.
Jason says: “Combining unicycling with feats of strength is something few, if any, have done.”
Meanwhile Karenjeet Bains had already made history by becoming the first female Sikh powerlifter to represent Team GB before she fired her way to a world record.
Manager
She trains for an hour-and-ahalf per day, combining it with her job as a business planning and finance manager.
Karenjeet hopes to inspire other women to get into sports such as powerlifting.
Other stand-out entries from 2,697 records in this year’s book include Alvin the Shetland pony from Sweden, who broke the record for fastest five metres on hind legs by a horse, making it in 16.7 seconds.
His owner Paulina Tufvesson taught him tricks to help him build confidence. And she says: “I always knew he was one of a kind.”
Florian Kastenmeier from Germany set the record for largest collection of rotating puzzles.
Cube
His collection now numbers a huge 1,519 and began with his first Rubik’s cube back in 2005.
Florian can now solve a cube in an impressive 45 seconds. Australian Celeste Dixon smashed the record for most aerial silk front saltos (somersaults in the air using the silks) in one minute, notching up an incredible 23.
The former gymnast, who appears on Australian Ninja Warrior, also set two further records — with eight backward somersault burpees in 30 seconds and taking 10.55 seconds to walk 10m on her hands while holding a 10kg medicine ball between her legs.
Other amazing records across the globe include the largest collection of lip balms. Scarlett Ashley Cheng from China has amassed a staggering 3,388. Chloe Arnold, of the US, set the record for most tap dance pullbacks in one minute (a move involving both feet coming off the floor) with 113.
While Junji Nakasone from Japan now holds the record for longest time spinning four basketballs — 21.65 seconds.
