TIPS TO STAY AUTUMN SAFE

- QUIRKY: Citroen Oli

WE HAVE officially entered Autumn, and whether you love or hate the cooler mornings and darker nights, the changes in weather will affect our roads and driving regardless.

Car Insurance experts Chill have put together the ultimate tips for driving safely over the next few months.

Look out for leaves as roads can quickly become dangerous, particularly when wet.

Foggy mornings are on the rise which can reduce visibility, so be sure to leave extra room between the vehicle in front of you.

Stay stocked up on antifreeze and coolant, it’s important to remain stocked

CITROËN has unveiled the new Oli SUV range which is a radical take on electric transportation.

The model has a target weight of 1000kg to deliver 400km range while the SUV can pull off a top speed of 110kmh.

Other good news is that users can enjoy a 20 per cent to 80 per cent charging in around 23 minutes.

So far this year 14,513 new electric cars have been registered in comparison to 7,819 on the same period in 2021 a rise of up on the essentials for your car all year round, but particularly in the colder months.

Check tyres for the correct pressure and tread.

Clean the windscreen to help with glare. Prepare for rain. Rain increases stopping distances and we get a lot of it. materials to sustainable production processes.

And the SUV is easy to repair, refurbish, upgrade, and personalise which means it can easily be passed on ‘as new’ to several successive owners, or kept in a family for younger generations to enjoy, the carmaker says.

Colin Sheridan, MD of Citroën Ireland, yesterday said: “I look forward to seeing elements of the oli concept being adapted to our future offering.” 85.6 per cent. Light Commercial vehicles are up 6.5 per cent (1,756) compared to September last year (1,649) and year to date are down 20.5 per cent (20,974).

DS IS probably the brand you’ve never heard of but that could change over the next few months as the Citroen luxury sub-brand spreads its wings in Ireland.

They’ve opened a specific DS Store now in Dublin 15 and last week they took the wraps off their slinky new DS4.

Built on the same EMP2 platform that’s used for cars as diverse as the Opel Astra and

Peugeot 308 Sportswagon and even the 408 saloon, the modular system allows the use of a fully electric power train, or a hybrid or conventional diesel and petrol units which is quite a nifty trick you have to admit.

I had its bigger brother the DS7 for a week recently and

I’ll report on that fully in due course but was keen to get behind the wheel of the new DS4 for a leisurely spin around Dublin 15 which happens to be where I live which made the commute much easier.

So what’s there to like or dislike about the DS4?

Well as it’s a DS, it’s big on Gallic style. Some would argue that it’s all a bit too fussy — and I’d have to agree on the DS7 —

AFTER news that Opel will revive the GSe badge as a new subbrand for electrified models, the German brand has released advance information and images of its first GSe models. The Opel Astra GSe hatchback and Sports Tourer GSe estate plug-in hybrids will offer the optimum balance between ride comfort and performance, combined with the option of emissions-free mobility, the firm states.

Opel CEO Florian Huettl said: “The new Opel Astra GSe and new Astra Sports Tourer GSe are the ideal cars for launching our dynamic new sub-brand, in full alignment with our strategy but this smaller crossover suits the bolder styling and I quite liked it all, even the odd little switches and controls that DS pepper their cars with.

Feel

DS are aiming at the big guys with this car think Audi A3, BMW X2 and even the Lexus UX and they’ve put a lot of work into making the car look and feel premium.

You get that reassuring thunk when you close the door and the interiors are well tricked to become an all-electric brand by 2028.”

With an impressive power output of 165 kW / 225hp and maximum torque of 360 Newton metres (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 1.1 - 1.2 l /100 km, CO2 emissions 25-26g /km) the new Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe will match the best in their respective classes for launch from a standstill, acceleration, and maximum speed.

Opel has achieved high performanceoriented handling characteristics by equipping the new Opel Astra GSe models with a dedicated out with an excellent infotainment system,

My test car for the afternoon was a petrol-only model — the 1.6l PureTech 180 if you must know — and had plenty of power on tap, though it was surprising to miss the instant torque of electrified cars. Times are a changing and of course the car is also offered as a far more potent DS 4 E-TENSE 225 which relies on a 4-cylinder

180 horsepower 1.6L PureTech engine AND a 110-horsepower electric motor with a 12.4kWh chassis, lowered by 10 millimetres, to deliver superior stability during cornering, under braking and while driving at higher motorway speeds.

The sporty calibration of the steering is GSe-specific, while the unique springs and oil-filled suspension dampers are specially tuned for dynamic driving and

comfort.
