‘I’d love to see it on Netflix’

TV STAR LUCY KENNEDY ON HER HOPES FOR HIT BOOK SERIES

- ■■ Keeley RYAN

LUCY Kennedy told how she “absolutely” has plans to bring her children’s book series, The Friendship Fairies, from the page to the screen.

The presenter added that it feels like “just yesterday” when she was first approached about penning the series — and how she “can’t believe” that there are already four books.

She told the Irish Daily Star: “Nothing would give me more satisfaction than seeing the Friendship Fairies on the screen.

“The illustrator, Phillip Cullen, is such a lovely, lovely guy. He’s so talented. While I had an idea of the fairies in my head and what I wanted them to look like, he made them come alive.

“Doc McStuffins, Peppa Pig — all of these children’s programmes are still so popular because young children, they may want to watch something on a phone but they’re still watching cartoons.

“I think The Friendship Fairies could definitely translate to telly.

I’d love to see it on Netflix — I think that that’s the way forward for me,

I’ve got a few ideas for them.”

The latest instalment in The Friendship Fairies hit shelves last month

— and Lucy told how it was “such an honour” to see kids dressed up as her characters at a recent book signing.

Feeling

She continued: “I actually love writing children’s books, it’s a lovely feeling. I did a book signing recently and there were children dressed up with fairy wings who were coming up to meet me, and it was just such an honour.

“It was a really nice feeling and I brought my daughter Holly along. She is in the book — it’s based on my children, and she’s the second fairy in the book — and she was signing autographs and everything. She’s only 10.”

It’s shaping up to be a busy autumn for the Dubliner, as she will be beginning filming the latest series of Living With Lucy in the coming weeks.

Lucy opened up about what it is like moving in with famous faces for a “very intense 72 hours” — and how it gives “such a great sense of who they are”.

She said: “It’ll be nice to be back in their houses, because during lockdown we did Lodging With Lucy, which was based at this amazing farm in Meath. It was pretty much for two nights, where the guests would come for the day and then go.

“So, it is lovely to get back into houses — and where I’m actually living with them. It is so true, that if you want to get to know someone, go live with them. When you live with them, you get such a great sense of who they are.

“Still to this day, people — even my neighbours — have seen me with my bags and gone, ‘oh my god, you actually live with them?’. I couldn’t lie and say yes I would, but then

I don’t. I actually do move in with them. It’s a very intense 72 hours but living with them, you get to know them a little bit more.

“You see them when the crew go at night, you see them before the crew arrive in the morning — it’s just a more intimate experience.”

Lucy was speaking as part of Benecol’s What’s Your Number? Campaign, which aims to increase awareness around the importance of getting your cholesterol tested.

The campaign launched on World Heart Day last Thursday — and, as part of it, Benecol are launching a Free Cholesterol Testing Day this Friday.

Lucy told how she has never had her cholesterol tested — but will be filming the experience on Friday.

She said: “Would you believe I’ve never, ever had it done — and I’m 46.

I’m nervous, but in another way I’m excited.

“Basically, what Benecol are doing is the people can go get their cholesterol checked on Friday

(October 7). You go onto their website, benecol.ie/whatsyournumber and you’ll get a list of pharmacies where these free tests are happening.
