GOVERNING BODY FAIL TO ACT ON ISSUE

-

THIS is too big a thing for a club just to leave it alone.

Get a wee patronising pat on the back by the GAA crew for doing “the honourable thing” and go away.

The Glen players would have no All-Ireland medal but lots of what ifs for years to come.

But sure, people will say: “Well done.”

Glen seem to have a brilliant group and with their age profile, there is a chance they could get back to another All-Ireland final.

But you just don’t know what way it will work, or who is going to leave with rural clubs and emigration. You might only have one shot at it. The Glen players have given such a massive commitment, and to have that hanging over you, if you never got back to an All-Ireland final, you don’t need that. (right) (left)

It seems such a cowardly thing for the GAA to do, to put the onus on Glen to object and people are calling them out for it.

Horrible

For me, it’s a horrible thing for the GAA to do to a club, to put them in a position like this.

Glen Maghera, from the outside looking in, are honourable people.

That word is going to come up, ‘The honourable thing to do.’

But it doesn’t matter what they do.

MUM’S THE WORD: Kilmacud goalkeeper Conor Ferris celebrates with his mother

They are solid, good GAA people that have put a lot of work into getting to where they are now.

For the GAA to have put this decision on them, I just can’t understand it at all.

It’s a strong word, but it is kind of disgusting. It is not a nice thing for any leadership to do.

There could be someone in the club saying, ‘We should object,’ and other people in Derry saying, ‘You won that in the boardroom.’

It shouldn’t be like that.

Honour doesn’t come into it. Glen should put it on the GAA, but it’s not a black and white issue.

There is a time to appeal – when you feel genuinely wronged. The GAA know themselves that a fine for Kilmacud Crokes is not an option, even though it is a potential course of action. It would be a cop-out.

A Glen objection is going to lead to a replay.

Forfeit

The GAA are not going to make Kilmacud forfeit the game and I don’t think Glen would want that.

It’s just the inaction in the whole thing by the GAA. It is within their remit to launch an investigation.

There’s probably a chairperson up in Glen scratching their head and trying to get on with their day’s work, and there are people in Croke Park getting paid a good salary who have put it on them.

I think that’s in no way acceptable or good leadership.

This is horrible for Kilmacud Crokes. You are sitting in the Monday club and the word gets stronger and stronger that there is a real possibility this game could be replayed.

It just takes the shine off it for
