REED TEED OFF AT HIS RIVAL RORY

them. It was a fairytale in terms of where the goalkeeper Conor Ferris came from, and his save was such a sweet ending to it.

Now for this to happen. No-one is saying anything shady was done. It was just that the officials made a boo-boo.

It’s unfair on Kilmacud as much as it is on Glen Maghera.

We have experience of it here. In 2002 we objected against a Killybegs player who played in America that summer.

Over two decades later there are Killybegs people still sore about it, and Ghaoth Dobhair people who say we shoudn’t have objected.

We went on to win the Championship, but for me there is an asterisk beside it.

Was it the right thing to do? Killybegs beat us fair and square by playing a man that had grown up and trained with them, but because he played in America for one or two games he was deemed illegal.

Other Ghaoth Dobhair lads would say it was the right thing to do. I don’t think it was but still I don’t know.

The GAA had the power to step in here and I think they should have stepped in and taken the decision out of Glen’s hands.

It could be a long, long few years ahead of what ifs for someone like Conor Glass.

We drone on about small margins all the time and this was one of those cases.

Some people will say Glen were beaten fair and square and that’s a fair enough opinion too, but I think the majority of the GAA believe an appeal is the right thing.

There is strong support to object and an acknowledgement they have been placed in a horrible position. to get involved unless Glen lodged an objection, a decision the Maghera labelled “extremely disappointing.”

It is believed the most likely outcome will be a replay, although this could be delayed until the weekend after next.

However, the Central Competitions Control Committee have the option of fining Kilmacud, or even awarding the game to Glen if it is proven that a rule regarding extra players on the field has been broken.

It is unclear what

Kilmacud’s next move will be and if they could launch a counter appeal.

The Stillorgan outfit emerged winners by 1-11 to 1-9, with a late Conor Glass goal chance saved by goalkeeper, Conor Ferris as the club claimed a third All-Ireland title.

Footage

Soon after the final whistle, footage emerged of Kilmacud Crokes substitute Conor Casey entering the fray, but the man he was supposed to replace, Dara Mullin, remained on the field.

Mullin, the man of the match, was standing on the goaline for the final play.

The controversy, which appears to have been a mix-up between the referee and his fourth official, has divided opinion across the country – with Joe Brolly’s slamming the GAA’s decision to throw the issue back at Glen.

GAA chiefs have yet to make any statement on the issue.

PATRICK Reed allegedly threw a tee at rival Rory McIlroy as the war between players in the PGA Tour and the rebel LIV Golf flared again.

The latest incident happened after McIlroy failed to acknowledge his rival ahead of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in Dubai, which starts tomorrow.

McIlroy was crouching at the time, looking at the ground. Reed stood near the world No.1 intending to say hello but reports claim the Northern Irish player “did not even turn his head towards him”.

Reed then tried to salute McIlroy (left) but again got no response from the PGA Tour star.

Disgust

Giving up on his attempt to be pleasant, the American reportedly walked away in disgust and then took a tee out of his pocket, throwing it in McIlroy’s direction.

Former Masters winner Reed ditched the PGA Tour last year, earning millions by signing for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series.

However, with the rebel tour yet to receive Official World Golf Ranking points, Reed has continued to play in DP World Tour.

Despite being suspended from playing in PGA Tour events LIV

Golf rebels, including Reed, can play in DP World Tour events ahead of an arbitration case next month.
