IRISH ANGLE

NAP OF THE DAY

EOIN McCARTHY is an excellent young trainer that’s based near Limerick and his CAOIMHES PET (3.17) gets the nap vote in the second division of the handicap hurdle.

She was strongly supported to win a handicap at Punchestown on New Year’s Day but a bad mistake two from home almost unseated jockey Gary Noonan with the race under control.

She has the chance to atone here under the same jockey and she should go close.

EACH WAY THIEF

CARRIG CATHAL (12.25) has a nice eachway chance in the opening Claiming

Race. His run here in a chase at Christmas behind Sir Bob was a very solid effort and, although he’s run since and finished fifth, he can make the frame here. Corey McGivern claims 7lbs on the 12-year-old and it’s certainly not the greatest race ever ran at Limerick.

ONE TO WATCH

AIDAN Kelly has been a go-to jockey for JP McManus in recent weeks and he’s completed the job well when asked.

He’s back in the green and gold today on the Tom Mullins’ trained LOVELY REACTION (2.42) in the Support Patrickswell GAA Opportunity Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old enters handicap company for the first time having been well beaten in three maidens. A mark of 87 seems fair and it’s a weak race.

ONE TO SWERVE

THE Willie Mullinstrained pair in the closing Bumper look very hard to split, with both having finished second and third in a race at Punchestown before Christmas.

Jody

Townend actually has an uncanny knack of winning on

Closutton second strings.

And for that very reason we’re swerving the likely favourite Blizzard Of Oz (3.52) here, who also concedes 5lbs to its stablemate that finished ahead of him last time.
