THE final series of Happy Valley reached a crescendo on Sunday night when Catherine Cawood’s hunch played out in gripping scenes.

After escaping from the dock, her nemesis Tommy Lee Royce is back in Halifax and, as she predicted, he’s on a mission to kill her and claim her grandson Ryan, his son through rape.

The BBC drama has had the nation transfixed for weeks and, as we hurtle towards the extended final episode on Sunday, fans are trying to work out

IS CATHERINE capable of murder? Probably if the man who raped her daughter, threatened to kill her grandson and sexually assaulted her son’s girlfriend decides he’s going to attack one of her loved ones.

The whole of the final series has been building up to the face-off between Catherine and Tommy, and what a showdown it will be with millions of viewers rooting for the former to be the victor.

The rivals have not come face to face since the last episode of season one when Tommy threatened to set Ryan on fire and beat the living how the show will end. But even the cast aren’t certain because five different scenes for the finale have been filmed to ensure no spoilers slip out.

Although everyone is hoping for a violent end for Tommy, it wouldn’t be surprising if Catherine finds a way of putting him away rather than killing him or getting the mob to do it for her.

Will she get to him before he gets to her? off into the sunset with her mixed-up grandson?

Whether Tommy ends up on the beaches of Marbella with Ryan, or Catherine gets to head off on her African adventure, it’s certain that the final episode of Happy Valley is going to be deadly.
