Klopp: I don’t know how is this possible

WOLVES v LIVERPOOL

JURGEN KLOPP has no idea how Chelsea have managed to splash so much cash.

And Pep Guardiola says Manchester City would be accused of trying to buy success if they had spent over €340m in January.

“I don’t understand how it’s possible, but it’s not for me to explain,” said Klopp.

Asked if the Financial Fair Play regulations are no longer fit for purpose, the Liverpool boss (right) said: “I can’t answer that without a lawyer because I can’t understand the question!”

Klopp did suggest Chelsea may have just found a way to work within the guidelines to spend almost as much in January as all the other Premier League clubs combined.

“Maybe they found a way, but then you need the money on top of it. They had both,” he said.

Chelsea signed eight players last month but have spread the cost over longterm deals to try to get by FFP rules.

Criticism

But Guardiola said if it had been City, the criticism would have been loud.

“I know what would happen,” he said. “But being the fifth team for net spend, we won 11 trophies in five years.

“What Chelsea do is nothing to do with me.”

Klopp, meanwhile, warned his under-performing players now is not the time for self-pity.

Liverpool take on Wolves today looking to keep their slim hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League alive.

They’ve gone three

Premier League games without a win in a run that includes two defeats and a draw, which leaves them 10 points off the top four with 19 games to play. And to make matters worse, Brighton dumped the FA Cup holders out of the competition last weekend.

Key players such as Fabinho, Mo Salah, Trent AlexanderArnold, Jordan Henderson, and Andy Robertson are out of form.

But Klopp doesn’t want to see any of his star men feeling sorry for themselves.

“Self-pity is not allowed,” he said. “We are humans and know moments when you think, ‘Oh my God, everything is going against me’.

“There’s only one person who can change that really and it’s yourself.

“The team performances are obviously a summary of the individual performances, but the other way around it works as well.

“Individual performances are influenced massively by the team performance.”
