Man charged with Sarah’s NYC stab murder

ACCUSED ALSO FACES WEAPON POSSESSION RAP

A MAN has been charged with the murder of Irishwoman Sarah McNally after she was fatally stabbed in the neck at an Irish pub in New York.

Marcin Pieciak (36), with an address at 76th Street in Queens, is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Ms McNally (41), from Co Longford, was stabbed in the neck at The Ceili House on Grand Avenue in Maspeth, Queens, at around 6.30pm on Saturday. Ms McNally worked at the bar.

She was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital in a critical condition and died in hospital.

The New York Police Department said Mr Pieciak was arrested and charged on Monday afternoon. He has not yet appeared in court.

A DCPI spokesman said: “On Monday, April 1, 2024, at 12:38 hours, the following individual was arrested and charged in the confines of the 104 Precinct.

“Marcin Pieciak, 36-year-old male 78-27 76 Street, Queens, NY. Charges Murder: Intention and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.”

NYPD previously said they found Ms McNally with a stab wound to the neck after being alerted to an assault at The Ceili House.

“Upon arrival, police observed a 41-year-old female with a stab wound to the neck and an unidentifi­ed male with a stab wound to the back and neck.

“EMS responded and transporte­d both aided individual­s to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst in critical condition.

“The 41-year-old female was subsequent­ly pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The investigat­ion remains ongoing.”

Many tributes have been paid to Ms McNally, who moved to New York around 10 years ago.

One local wrote on social media: “The whole of Longford is in shock.”

Her aunt Mary McNally wrote: “Rest in peace my beautiful niece Sarah, we are heartbroke­n. Love you always.”

Soul

Another aunt Margaret Gaffey, said her “beautiful niece” had been “taken all too soon”.

And cousin Petra Smith said: “My beautiful cousin, just can’t believe it.”

One pal wrote: “Sarah was such a lovely soul.

“May she rest in peace. She was a beautiful girl.”

Ms McNally is survived by her mother Dorrie, father Des, and their extended family.
