Legendary jockey Dettori wins six races on the trot

A LUCKY punter transformed a mere £1 stake into a staggering £110,000 (€128,154) after Frankie Dettori’s 77,000/1 six-timer in California on Saturday night.

The legendary Italian jockey, reminiscent of his iconic Royal Ascot performance in 1996, clinched victory in six consecutive races at the Santa Anita Derby.

Dettori, who famously cost bookmakers £40 million with his ‘Magnificent Seven’ at Ascot 28 years ago, was in top form in the US, with his six wins offered at combined odds of 77,000/1 by some betting firms.

Despite starting the day with a second-place finish aboard Danzingwith Maxin,

Dettori went on to secure six straight wins.

One of the bookies feeling the sting from Dettori’s success was Ladbrokes, where a customer won big thanks to a six-fold accumulator betting on Dettori in each race.

Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady commented: “We thought the Frankie Dettori nightmares had ended when he hung up his whip in Britain.

“But how wrong were we? “The Dettori drama came crashing back last night in California when he rode an astonishing six-timer.”

“There were a lot of happy customers, no more so than one particular punter who scooped a whopping £110,880 from a £1 bet. It was a costly night, but we can thank our lucky stars that it wasn’t worse.”
