Homeowner accused man of breaking into his property

A “MONSTER” who raped and sexually abused two girls when they were teenagers and he was a much older man has been jailed for 12 years.

The 59-year-old man, who can’t be named to protect the anonymity of his victims, pleaded guilty to 12 counts relating to the sexual abuse of the two girls in the 1990s and 2000s.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt imposed a sentence of 13 and a half years, with the final 18 months suspended.

A GARDA accused of endangerin­g life during an incident where three men died in a collision must face trial before a Circuit Court judge and jury.

A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after he was injured in a confrontat­ion with a homeowner – who accused him of breaking into his property.

The Star has learned that the man sustained serious head injuries in an incident at a house in Tallaght, Co Dublin on Sunday morning.

He was so badly injured that he is now in the intensive care unit of the Mater Hospital in central Dublin – where he was seriously ill last night.

It’s understood the injured man fled the scene and later presented himself to staff in the Mater – after initially going to several other hospitals in the city.

Sources also say he gave a false name to hospital staff and gardaí are now working to establish his identity.

Although he was able to go to the Mater himself, his condition has deteriorat­ed.

Gardaí last night said: “Gardaí are investigat­ing an alleged assault at a residentia­l premises in Fettercair­n, Tallaght, Dublin 24, in the early hours of Sunday.

“A man is being treated at a hospital in Dublin for serious injuries. Investigat­ions are ongoing.”
