LEAGUE AGONY CAN DRIVE TEAM ON IN EUROPE

‘FANS’ KANE SOFT SPOT BAYERN’S KANE FEELING STRANGE

Kane thought it was a far bigger mistake when referee Nyberg failed to give a penalty against Gabriel for picking the ball up in his own penalty box after the whistle had been blown to restart play.

Decision

But Kane did sympathise with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, his England team-mate, who went down late on under

Manuel Neuer’s challenge.

Kane said: “They had a decision at the end which sometimes go your way but we also had a clear penalty which would have been really strange when the keeper passed it to Gabriel and he picked the ball up in his box.

“It was a stonewall penalty and I don’t know why the ref didn’t give it. It would have been strange. with a full crowd and it’s going to be an amazing atmosphere and the aim is to get to the semi-final.”

Kane ran the gauntlet of the Arsenal fans having put Thomas Tuchel’s (right) side ahead after Serge Gnabry’s leveller. It was Kane’s fifth penalty at the Emirates – and he claimed their supporters even have a grudging respect for him as the ex-Tottenham striker insisted he loves the rivalry.

He added: “I think they have a soft respect for me, the Arsenal fans. I love the game.

“I was a fan when I was younger so I know how it goes and, for me, I just try to perform.

“For some reason, I get a lot of penalties here at the Emirates and I’ve been happy I’ve been able to put them away.

“It will be nice to be at home next and in front of the Munich fans.”

“But the ref blew the whistle, he passed it, he picked it up, it would have been child-like but that’s not our problem.

“The rules are the rules and maybe they should have had one, we should have had one, and it’s 2-2 and level for next week.”

Bayern now start as favourites to progress, having never gone out to Arsenal in the knock-out stages.
