LAWNMOWERS are set to roar this weekend with the longawaited arrival of fine weather, according to one expert, as an area of high pressure settles over Ireland.

And the reprieve from the cold, wet conditions that the country has become accustomed to is likely to last into next week, with Met Eireann predicting below average rainfall and above average temperatures.

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather predicted that “next weekend is looking really promising” and “lawnmowers will be roaring and garden centre car parks will be jammed.”

Rain

The positive news comes after a rough night for many parts of the country as thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong gusts swept across all regions from the northwest.

People will be happy, Met Eireann forecaster Siobhan Ryan said, as Ireland is finally seeing some Spring-like weather.

She said: “Overall it’s a good news story for the rest of the week as things do look like they will settle down.

“Today there will still be a bit of a breeze and a few showers drifting down but compared to yesterday it will be a little less cool and a little less breezy and a little less showery.

“After that high pressure begins to move in so by and large we are looking at almost dry conditions for the rest of the week.

“There’s still a few isolated showers for Wednesday but more dry weather than not.”

Thursday is when the sunglasses will come out, as above average temperatures are expected with highs of 16C.

She predicted: “For Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday it looks fully dry for a lot of the country and the winds look fairly slack too. “Sunshine is debatable for the rest of the week, there’s a mix of clouds and sunshine but by comparison to what we’ve had it’s the first time we’ve seen a spell of settled weather moving in across all of the country.”
