Scanlan15 Nazi healer might cure what heils you

CRACKPOT LEAFLET NUISANCE

-

IT WAS the first beautiful Sunday of the year. Sun out, birds singing, leaflets about Nazi healers being put in my letterbox.

The Nazi bit was unsolicited and unexpected. Generally, I don’t associate Nazis with the longer evenings or the first swallow of the summer, healers or otherwise.

But someone looked out their window last week, saw it wasn’t raining, and thought: “Today’s the day to spread the word about Nazi healers, 19 degrees, lovely”.

And at some point — most likely while I was clearing out the shed — they walked up to my front door and popped their little leaflet in...

I’ll tell you this, there’s nothing like a leaflet about a Nazi to put a bit of a cloud over an otherwise perfect day.

It said: “DOCUMENTARY

FILM”. Then came the unlikely boast: “For 20 years in the Cinema”.

Then there were eight paragraphs about the man — whose name I won’t mention because he was a bit loopy and a Nazi — who the documentary was/is about.

There was no mention of his Nazi involvement, but several of his healing abilities: “The lame walk, the blind see”.

Then this: “Many viewers report that while watching the film, they suddenly noticed an energy, a tingling sensation, a current in their body”.

And this: “Some even reported the disappearance of pain, disability and other ailments”.

As film reviews go, that’s, well, that’s... pretty out there. And there was more: “The facts speak for themselves.

“Healings from cancer, angina pectoris, rheumatism and osteoporosis as well as from drug and other addictions. Doctors confirm these successes.”

Jeepers. But then there’s the line that tells us this chap “died in 1959”. A quick online search confirms that he was a Nazi, and yes, he died. Of cancer.

That kind of poo-poos the man’s own quote that “there is no incurable”.

Still though, he has his fans. And one of them walked to my front door on Sunday.

They wanted me to know that there’ll be a “spring screening” of the “DOCUMENTARY FILM”, admission free. Which translates as it’s on the web.

They even say it’s been “translated into 40 languages”. And none of them, I’m quite sure, making a single word of sense.

So thanks but no thanks to the leaflet deliverer. And if they’re in the area again, they can keep walking, I’m not their target audience, and I’m not sure who is.

If I want to feel tingly when I watch TV, I’ll have a second can. Nazi crackpots aren’t necessary.
