U2 star Adam Clayton and his wife Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have “amicably divorced” after more than 10 years of marriage.

A spokesperson for the couple yesterday confirmed the break-up to the Sunday World. The pair, who got married in September 2013, are also parents to six-year-old daughter Alba.

A statement said: “After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced.”

A spokesperson for the couple told the Sunday World: “Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.”

The bass guitarist and the lawyer got married in a Dublin registry office wedding in September 2013. Their big day came after four years of dating.

The celebrations continued as they partied with 150 of their close family and friends – including U2 bandmates Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen – in a 14th-century French chateau in Mandelieu-la-Napoule close to Cannes in France.

Adam and Mariana welcomed their only child in July 2017. The news was announced in a personal ad in The Irish Times.

It said: “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”

Private

Adam, like the rest of his U2 co-stars, is quite private about his personal life, including his romances.

However, in June 2017, after receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, he opened up about Mariana.

He said: “I was in Brazil and I met a lawyer who was smart and beautiful. We started dating. Thank you, Mariana, for the wonderful life we have together.”
