Humph’s Leeds to fly high?
LUKE HUMPHRIES hopes his beloved Leeds United will breeze through the Championship playoffs – and send him to the Big Apple on a ‘wind’ and a prayer.
Cool Hand Luke followed the script by winning the BetMGM Premier League night in Leeds, beating Michael van Gerwen 6-5 in a gripping final, in front of his adoring flock.
Now Humphries wants Daniel Farke’s men to reach their play-off final at Wembley by beating Norwich – so he can go to Wembley as a fan before catching the plane to New York for the prestigious World Series event at Madison Square Garden 24 hours later.
The PDC world champion said: “I’m available to go to Wembley and I will be going if Leeds make it there.
“I fly to New York on the 27th and the playoff final is the day before, so I hope to be at the check-in desk in a good mood!”
Draughts
Humphries has been less enthusiastic about the draughts wafting across stage at some of the Premier League venues, making his darts “somersault” in midair – although he was doing cartwheels of a different sort on Thursday night.
He said: “It’s an amazing feeling. This is the greatest one I’ve won. Leeds is not my home town, but it feels like it because of the football club I support.
“But I’m still learning – I’m not used to playing in arenas where there’s a breeze.
“Rotterdam, as everyone knows, is awful, it’s really tough. Last week (in Aberdeen) was probably worse.
“You see my frustration – because my darts are like somersaulting in the air.”
