The 400-600kg types sold for €1.60-2.45/kg with lighter lots making from €1.50-3.00/kg.

Store heifers were making €1.80-2.75/kg, which was €320-615 with their weight. The butcher lots made €2.00-2.10/kg, while heavier types were making €1.90-2.51/kg. Friesian cull cows ranged from €1.00 to €1.75/kg. The continenta­l cows made €1.45-2.13/kg.

The annual fatstock show and sale for bulls and bullocks at Carnew Mart saw an entry of 900 cattle and met with a very strong selling trade due to a strong farmer, factory and export demand.

CHAMPION

The weanling bulls made €380-1,000 with the €1/kg. The champion beef steer weighed 824kg and made €2,000 or €2.42/kg, while the overall champion, a 680kg Belgian Blue sold for €1,820 or €2.67/kg. In general, the fleshy bullocks were making from €680 to €1,200 with their weight. Stores made from €450 to €850 over.

In the suck calf section, prices of €65-200 were paid for the Friesian bulls. Coloured bull calves were selling from €190-450, while the heifers made €150-410.

Top class bulls over 600kgs made up in Raphoe were selling for €615-820 over the weight. Beef bullocks moved at €550-635 over. Stores made €715-770 with the weight.

Beef heifers ranged from €310 to €1,070 over the €1/kg. Stores made €300805 with the weight. Cull cow prices ran from €600 to €1,550 each

Bullocks at Maam Cross sold for €1.95-2.85/kg. Heifers ranged from €1.60 to €3.05/kg, while weanlings made from €1.60 to €3.20/kg. Cull cow prices ran from €1.25 to €1.85/kg.

There were 160 suck calves in Enniscorth­y. Continenta­l bulls were selling for €300-510. Heifers made €250-465. Hereford and Angus bull calves sold for €200-475, while the heifers moved at €180-330. Friesian bulls made €70230.

In the cattle ring, the beef steers made €600-1,000 with their weight. Stores made €100-770 over. Fleshed heifers sold for €500-900 with the €1/kg. Stores ranged from €250 to €600 over. Cull cows fit for slaughter were making €300-600 with their weight. Cows for further feeding made from €50 to €250 over. Prices for bull weanlings ranged from €750 to €950 or €450-650 with the €1/kg. Heifer weanlings made €300-630 with their weight.

At Mayo/Sligo mart, Charolais steers between 450kg and 630kg were making €2.00-2.44/kg. Charolais bull weanlings ranged from €2.50 to €3.08/kg.

Continenta­l heifers of 450-600kg sold for €2.102.55/kg, while the weanlings made €2.400-2.91/kg.

In the calf section, prices of €350-550 were being paid for continenta­l bulls and €300-500 for heifer calves. Angus bulls sold for €230280, with heifers making €220-230.

The Friesian/Holstein bull calves made from €110 to €140.

The tops of the cull cows made up to €1,200. Sucklers peaked at €1,640.
