THE NATIONAL Ploughing Championships is fast approaching and one company is particularly excited about this year’s show.

Major Equipment Intl Ltd in Ballyhaunis is preparing for their 40th year in business and their 40th trip to event. The company was established in 1976 to manufacture trailers and safety cages. From these humble beginnings it has developed into an international business manufacturing grass mowers and slurry handling equipment.

The company employs 78 people and exports 65pc of its annual production to countries as far away as Australia and Chile.

To celebrate their 40th birthday, Major has launched its Win A Trip to Italy photo competition.

Major is inviting customers to submit pictures of their Major machines in action over the years. To learn more about the competition and submit your entry, visit the Major website www.major-equipment.com.

The winners will be announced at the Ploughing Championships and photos from the competition will be on display at the Major stand.

In terms of new developments, the Ploughing Championships will see the launch of the Major winged Cyclone Mower.

This mower has a working width of 3.5m with a folding wing for safe transportation. It has been shortlisted for the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Arena.

This award recognises and rewards outstanding innovation in the agricultural machinery sector.
