Gurteen property in the heart of top-class farming country

-

TWO contrasting properties in two quite different parts of the country have come on the market.

One extending to 55ac is located in the heart of top-class farming country beside Gurteen College, near Ballingarry in North Tipperary, while the other, extending to 1,185ac of forestry, is located near the western seaboard at Bangor Erris in West Mayo.

The Tipperary farm is guided at €550,000, while the Mayo land is up for €850,000.

There will undoubtedly be keen interest in the 55ac of ground for sale adjacent to Gurteen College between Borrisokane and Birr.

The ground has been let to Gurteen College over the last 20 years and is now for sale by private treaty with a guide price of €10,000/ac.

According to selling agents Mike Brady, the land is in two fields, has recently been reseeded and is in the best of good heart.

With established farm roadways, the holding comes with significant public road frontage and is bounded by good fencing and mature trees.

According to Mr Brady, the land would make an ideal add-on to a current farming operation or could, with the appropriate planning permission, be turned into a very nice residential farm.

Going from the heart of the sheltered midlands to the western seaboard, the next property consists of 1,185ac of mature forestry in Bangor Erris on the western tip of Mayo, not far from the Wild Atlantic Way. The property is in two lots with about 988ac in one lot and 197ac in another.

The larger holding is located at Briska, 5km from Bangor Erris, and is made up of 888ac of mainly Sitka Spruce, with some Lodgepole Pine planted nearly 30 years ago and about 100ac of unplanted mountain ground.

The second plot of 197ac is located about 10km on the Belmullet side of Bangor Erris and is made up of Sitka Spruce and Lodgepole pine, with 11ac of unplanted ground.
