Mixed fortunes in Wexford

WEXFORD AUCTIONEER David Quinn had a mixed week when he sold two out of three properties at auction, writes Jim O’Brien.

The first piece to be offered was a 25ac parcel of stubble ground in two fields at Ballammon, Tombrack 5km from Ferns. One of the fields has extensive road frontage.

Bidding opened at €200,000 and with three bidders in the chase the price rose quickly until the place went on the market at €305,000.

Two bidders continued to bid until the hammer fell at €350,000 in favour of a local dairy farmer who paid a healthy €14,000/ac.

A 22.5ac residential farm with a good yard at Ballyknockan, The Ballagh near Enniscorthy didn’t fare so well.

It was offered as an entire and in two lots with the house on 1ac forming one lot and the land and yards forming another.

On the day there was no bid on the house or on the entire with the main interest focussed on the land extending to 21.5ac. This opened at €150,000, and with two bidders in the fray it was bid to €190,000. It was withdrawn at this point and negotiations are on-going.

Mr Quinn got back to his winning ways when he sold a 22ac parcel of grazing ground at Jamestown, Oylegate. The land is made up of 19ac of good ground, with 3ac of heavy ground where it meets the River Slaney.

Three bidders joined proceeding after an opening bid of €150,000 and at €190,000 the place went on the market. It sold to a local dairy farmer at €195,000.
