Grass and tillage farm guided at up to €10,000 per acre

- JIM O’BRIEN

A FINE 133.5ac farm in the parish of Killeigh in Offaly has come on the market and will be sold at auction with a guide price of €9,000 to €10,000/ac.

The land — divided into three lots in the townlands of Killeenmore and Aughanrush — is located about 10km from Tullamore and 15km from Mountmellick.

Much of the ground in the area is elevated and the lower lying territory is blessed with a hint of peat making the soil rich and fertile.

This 133.5ac farm is made up of prime land with beautiful elevated views of the surrounding countryside. According to Gordon Cobbe of selling agents GVM Tullamore the area boasts some fine agricultural holdings and the locality is also home to the famous Glenisk dairy.

The farm for sale will be offered in lots or as an entire with the lots comprised of a 48.5ac parcel of grassland, 82.5ac of tillage ground and a 2.5ac piece suitable for a site.

The 48.5 ac in grass has approximately 1.75km of road frontage and slopes upwards from the road to an elevated height with great views of the area.

According to the locals this ground has no need of drains; nature does it all. The portion would be ideal as an out-farm for a dairy operation or as a fodder farm. Given the road frontage it could also make a nice compact residential holding.

A.2.5ac parcel of grass across the road from the 48.5ac has decent road frontage and similarly elevated views. According to Gordon Cobbe it has great site potential subject to the required planning approval.

The 82.5ac section is made up of prime arable land currently in tillage and laid out in one block. Located 1.5km north east of Killeigh village, the piece is in an area noted for natural draining.

It was most recently in beans but would be suited to any type of farming. The gentle sloping nature of the parcel provides some lovely elevated views of the surrounding countryside.

A video clip of the farm is available on YouTube and is well worth a look.

Given the variety of parcels the auctioneers are hoping the sale will bring customers from near and far when the auction takes place at the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Friday, March 24 at 3pm.
