YMA stalwarts win Hall of Fame and President’s awards

LAURA SINNOTT from Wexford was presented with the President’s Medal at the IHFA All-Ireland Annual Awards for her contributi­on to the success of the Slaney YMA Club.

Maria Burke from Cork, received the Hall of Fame award for her role in the Cork YMA Club.

Laura, from The Ballagh, Enniscorth­y, held the position of YMA co-ordinator with Slaney for a number of years and has been one of the main organisers of the club calf shows and other YMA events.

She has also served with distinctio­n as National YMA PRO. She also helped other members of her club by taking the time to call to their farms and help them prepare and train their calves for the local show. In addition, she helped new and upcoming young handlers in showing them tips and tricks of the trade.

Most recently, she has also taken on the role of Club PRO, while also still being involved in the YMA side of the Slaney Club.

She was particular­ly commended for her encouragem­ent to her son and other young members to participat­e in YMA activities.

Maria Burke from Dripsey has been involved in Cork YMA since she was 11 and played an active role in both Cork YMA and National YMA during many years of distinguis­hed service. She is highly respected by all within Cork YMA, where she has served as club secretary, chairperso­n and president.

During her time as National YMA Officer, Maria was involved as part of the team effort in compiling the Field To Show book and DVD which continues to provide a wealth of informatio­n for new members.
