IRISH country star Michael English has had a phenomenal few years on the home scene with his hugely popular high-energy live shows — and now the singer is set to film his spectacular live show for TV and DVD.

The man from Castledermot, Co Kildare, has lots of surprises in store for fans at the event, which will be staged in the INEC, Killarney, next Saturday night.

Michael has had many highlights in his career — including a performance on The Late Late Show as a child star — but he’s particularly excited about this recording, which, of course, will feature all his hits, like ‘Tuam Beat’ and ‘Dance All Night’. The video will be out in time for Christmas.

“It’s been my dream for many years to record a live concert so that I can showcase what I do, so I’m delighted to finally get the opportunity,” Michael says.

With his career now flying in Ireland and the UK, Michael has his sights set on America, where Daniel O’Donnell has carved out a very successful career and has an annual residency at a theatre in Branson, Missouri.

Michael, who won ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ at the Sunday World Country Music & Entertainment Awards in January, grew up in a home steeped in music, as his father played the button accordion in a trad band.

Recognising his only son’s musical talent, Pat enrolled him for formal training at Carlow’s Hennessy School of Music and later at The Royal Irish Academy of Music.

After a year teaching music, Michael began his performing career playing in dance bands, singing country songs, recording well-received albums and doing concert shows on cruise ships in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

When the country music scene began attracting a new young audience, Michael was in the right place at the right time.
