Further extension needed on slurry spreading: ICSA
THE ICSA has called for a further extension to slurry spreading period to help farmers who have been badly hit by the poor weather through the autumn.
The ICSA’s Cavan chairman, Hugh Farrell, said that greater flexibility needed to be shown to farmers in northern and western counties who are facing serious difficulties.
The recent drier conditions provided an opportunity for farmers to empty tanks ahead of the winter, Mr Farrell pointed out.
“It makes no sense to prevent farmers from carrying out urgent work now that conditions are improving. Yet again, we are seeing the insanity of calendar farming when it comes to slurry spreading,” he said.
